ADORN Vintage Furniture & Designs

Shavise Glascoe

They say that home is where the heart is. Well for me, home is where the peace is. As a proud homebody, I’m intentional about the pieces that I bring into my home. So when I moved on my own a few years ago, I decided to take my time with furniture and decor choices. Sure I have a few pieces from the big-box stores. I am a normal person with a budget after all lol. But when I find decor that is unique, of good quality and comes from a shop with great energy……I go for it!

I first met Raina, the owner of ADORN, via her work that I spotted on the Instagram feed YEARS ago. And like any good social media fan, I followed the page, liked the posts and engaged in the comments. I didn’t meet her live and in the flesh until I bumped into her at a local event (SunSets…..good times).

There’s something special about being able to put a face with a name and body of work. This is one of the main reasons why I value shopping local, you can meet the maker and connect to their products. So let’s unpack why ADORN Vintage Furniture & Designs holds a special place in my home and heart as a consumer.

To start, Raina has such a warm and inviting energy about her and you can easily see that translate into her shop and work. Whenever I visit the shop, I feel welcomed and captivated by the space and nearly every piece there. From lamps, sofas, sideboards, chairs and more, it’s almost impossible to leave without a new addition for your home. However, the square footage of my apartment keeps me in line.

The stool (as seen above), lamp (not pictured), and basket that I have in my living room space were all intentional purposes. Not only are they unique and add flare to my home, they also are rather functional. I have other pieces but for time sake, I’ll elaborate on just a few.

  • This stool was the perfect piece for my living room area. Not only does the color and print fit with current look that I have going on here, it’s super comfy. Once I took a seat on the stool in the shop, I knew I’d be hauling it home for sure. It definitely is a piece that visitors note and admire.

  • The main source of light in my living room during the evening hours is a lamp that I bought when I was first preparing for the move. I got his lamp from what was formerly known as Cedar & Cotton and Raina helped me select it. I was drawn to it due to its beautiful shape, character and rich brown color. It was the perfect lamp to place on my end table.

  • The ongoing balance of being a boy mom and neat freak is a challenge at times. With that being said, my little guy loves to come home with all types of “trinkets”. You know, all of those really small things that either end up in a drawer, on the floor (insert angry face here) and anywhere in between. On his last trip to the beach with his father, he picked shells and wanted to keep them, but the plastic bag he entered my home with wasn’t going to do. Nor was his room going to be a safe space. So what solution did I have? A fancy wicker basket. Of course….it’s me after all. The shells fit in the basket perfectly, could be enjoyed when desired and stays out of the way. This piece is both beautiful and functional.

So if you are in the Baltimore area, looking to add a few special touches to your home or love vintage pieces, take some time on a Saturday to head over to ADORN! I’d love to see what you discover and walk away with.
